The Sound Our Faith Is Meant to Make

Have you ever felt it? That moment when a conversation opens up, a friend shares a struggle, and you know, deep in your bones, that you have an answer. Not a simple fix, but a person. Jesus. The name hangs in the air between you, but a lump forms in your throat. Fear whispers a thousand questions. What if they get angry? What if I say the wrong thing? What if I ruin the friendship?

And so the moment passes. The silence that follows feels heavy, like a missed opportunity. We walk away with a quiet ache, wondering if our faith is meant to be this quiet.

This feeling is common to so many of us who love Jesus. We have received the greatest gift imaginable, the grace of God that has turned our lives upside down. Yet we often lock this treasure away, unsure how to share it. We forget that the gospel is not a private possession. It is public news. It is meant to make a sound. Evangelism, a word that can feel intimidating, is simply our faith finding its voice.

The Bible is unflinchingly clear about this. Our God is a seeking God. From the garden where He walked and called out, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9), to Jesus’s own parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin (Luke 15), the theme is constant. God pursues the lost with a relentless, fatherly love. When Jesus gave His followers the Great Commission, He was not giving a suggestion for the spiritually gifted. He was inviting all of us into the family business. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:18-19).

The word “go” is a command born of love. It is a call to participate in God’s redemptive mission. The apostle Paul understood this deeply. He asked a piercing question: “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” (Romans 10:14). His logic is inescapable. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes through the word of Christ, spoken by a messenger.

You are that messenger. I am that messenger. We are, as Paul says, “Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20). This is not about having all the right answers or a flawless presentation. It is about representing the One who sent us. It’s about bearing a message of hope that is not our own.

In the Pathway Movement, we call this the Bring step. It is the sixth step on our discipleship journey, flowing naturally from all that comes before it. Once you Believe the gospel, Belong to a family of faith, and Become more like Jesus, an unstoppable overflow begins. You learn to Bless others with your gifts and Build them up in the faith. The logical, God-ordained next step is to Bring them the very news that changed you. It is the hinge that swings open the door to Bear, the final step of multiplication.

This act of bringing the gospel is a profound expression of several of our core virtues. It is an act of Obedience to Christ’s clear command. It requires Faithfulness to steward the good news we’ve been given. And it is the engine of Multiplication, the process by which God’s kingdom grows. It all begins when one person has the courage to speak.

So how do we do this? How do we move from silent faith to a faith that speaks?

It starts not with a script, but with a heart broken for what breaks God’s heart. It starts with prayer. Pick one person in your life who does not know Jesus. Pray for them by name every single day. Pray for their heart to be softened, and pray for God to give you an opportunity and the courage to speak.

Second, be ready to share your story. Not a sermon, but your personal story of what your life was like before Jesus, how you met Him, and what your life is like now. The apostle Peter tells us to “always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15). Your story is your most powerful tool.

Finally, invite them into community. The goal is not just a one-time decision but a lifelong walk. Invite them to your Pathway Group. Invite them to church. Let them see what the family of God looks like. The Bring step is the bridge to the Belong step for someone else. You are inviting them to see the gospel lived out.

This is not a burden we carry alone. Jesus promised, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). The power comes from Him. The results belong to Him. Our part is simply to open our mouths and make a sound, the beautiful sound of the gospel.

Every time a disciple shares Christ, a seed is planted for a new life, a new leader, a new church. This is how our mission unfolds. This is how we move toward our vision. We do this one conversation, one prayer, one invitation at a time, until the whole earth is filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. Until Christ is known everywhere.
